Some of you have gotten in touch regarding our calendar of events this year. We realized that we do not have a permanent page for this information but we do have quite a few planned for you, so we thought we would put all of them in a blog post for the time being. Be sure to update your calendars once we announce the dates!
First Peoples’ Festival. We are hosting the 5th annual First Peoples’ Festival downtown in joint efforts with the Downtown Ithaca Alliance in partnership with Apple Harvest Festival. The First Peoples’ Festival features all Indigenous performers, food and craft vendors, as well as educational booths, interactive workshops, and children’s activities.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration. In partnership with the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) and many other community organizations, The MLK Day of Celebration takes place at GIAC on MLK Day every January. Workshops, children’s activities, music and a free community luncheon all staffed by volunteers makes this a day on, not a day of.
Annual Sister-Friends Luncheon. This yearly event in March celebrates women of all ages, sizes, religions, ethnicities and cultures. There is a Women’s Market, performances by women and girls, and a featured guest speaker.
Movie Nights. MRC occasionally hosts film & discussion series on movies that focus on race, class and other diversity issues.
MLK Community Build. MRC is a partner in this new community initiative to start reading groups and book clubs around Martin Luther King Jr’s last book ‘Where do we go from Here: Chaos or Community?’ Stay tuned for a new web site for the build and a community launch date coming soon!
